1) Excerpt from "Practical Uses of Breathing"

(c) Alfred J. Parker (written in the mid 50's)

When your mind is tired and you feel sleepy, inhale as much breath through your nose as your lung capacity will permit. Retain the breath until you count six and then exhale slowly. This will awaken the mental faculties and make you feel alert. Do this breathing at least three times in succession.

(Editor's note: Inhale the breath slowly through the nose concentrating on the oxygen being taken to the back of the throat. Push the abdomen forward as you breath in and push the ribs sideways while still breathing in. The abdomen will automatically go inwards slightly. Then, lift the chest and collarbone while still breathing in. Then relax the head and the shoulders. When exhaling, allow the collarbone, chest, and ribs to relax. The air will expel automatically. Then pull the abdomen in slightly to expel any remaining air. Relaxation of mind and body is the key to benefitting from deep breathing.)

If you wake up with a suggestion of sickness--headache, fever, chills--immediately do your deep rhythmic breathing until a sign of perspiration breaks out upon your forehead, and in a short time the sick symptom will disappear. If at any time you feel self-conscious, do the above-mentioned deep breathing and you will soon feel positivity and self-confidence returning. A constructive positive thought backed by positive breathing will vitalize and give power to the thought.

The first steps in breathing constitute the realization that breathing is the most vital function of all, that it is the positive function without which there could be no life. One must first increase one's lung capacity by taking fewer but longer breaths through the nose, and then rhythmically exhale through the nose. As the lungs open, the greater capacity will naturally call for its greater amount of breath and in due time it will be a natural action to breathe more deeply. When called upon to face vital issues, remember the strengthening influence of the long rhythmic breathing.

Thinking, Our Greatest Propensity

Thinking is our greatest propensity. To be logical and consistent with our scientific development, our thinking should be upon a universal plane, despite our finite existence; we should attempt to realize the vast- ness and profundity of life and time, and should pattern our concept and theory or religious dogma upon a profound, universal, and eternal scale--not limited to a few hundred years' existence, for so doing would place religious theory as equal to that of a flyspeck upon the Pacific Ocean.

For time immemorial humanity has personalized and symbolized life in all is phases; each person is a microcosm of the macrocosm, i.e., an individualized universe unto oneself, composed of the finite and infinite planes, a body and a mind, the latter being the channel of consciousness to the brain cells. This channel called mind must steadily grow and unfold the channel of consciousness or wisdom, or become submerged in the throes of emotion. If this occurs, we feel rather than think, and all our thoughts and actions are illogical and confused; we fail to distinguish good from evil, and fail to find balance. It is quite apparent that there is a lack of basic thinking in this world of ours, because there is no basic plan of life showing our relationship and responsibility to our source of being and our physical existence.

It seems strange that science has not learned to connect the alphabet and mathematics with human mind and thinking. How could we create conscious thinking without having symbols through which to think? Not that the letters of the alphabet are Consciousness in its greatest essence, but how can a musician produce harmony on a piano without a keyboard of language and mathematical tension through the strings? 3) Groups and Compatibility

(Editor's note: See last month's issue (Issue #25 - March 2001)for an explanation of the groups.)

People born into the same group can experience a natural kinship, especially if their names have relative mathematical qualities. They tend to observe life from a similar perspective, think and feel in a similar way, and enjoy similar activities. However, discord in the name can distort the natural compatibility of people in the same group.

Therefore, if you are married to or associating with someone born into a different group, an opportunity awaits you to gain an understanding of life from another perspective. Being in different groups need not spoil long-term happiness, especially when each person strives to appreciate and understand the viewpoints and the challenges that face the other person.

Your Group: Water In business associations, friendships, and marriage, you will find the most congeniality with those who are also in the water group. You work best on your own; you are tenacious and work hard to accomplish your goals. Because of your extreme independence and individuality, and a self-focused approach to life, you are inclined to disregard advice and to overlook the sensitivities of others. You like to do things in your own way. You are a natural leader. You are not as verbally expressive as people in the fire and air groups.

Those in the water group find it easier to merge with those in the fire group that those in the air group. Fire group members do not tend to interfere with the independence of those in the water group.

Your Group: Fire In business associations, friendships, and marriage, you will find the most congeniality with those who are also in the fire group. You have the responsibility of working with people to blend differences of opinion, and to create harmony and understanding, while at the same time, maintaining your own individuality and remaining impartial. You flourish with the encouragement and support of family and friends.

Fire group members find it easier to merge with people in the air group than with those in the water group. Air group members are not as independent, self- reliant, and self-sufficient as those in the water group. Air group members, though, are not as adaptable as those in the fire group, nor are they as practical and systematic unless it is found in the names they use.

Your Group: Air In business associations, friendships, and marriage, you will find the most congeniality with those who are also in the air group. You have an ability to reach people through the power of the word. You should develop vision and serve humanity. Within you is a naturally buoyant, enthusiastic zest for life. You desire to lead and motivate others to something better. You must think more about the practical side of your ideas and plans.

Air group members find it easier to merge with people in the fire group than with those in the water group. Fire group members find it easier than do the members of the other two groups to set aside their own wishes and respond to the inclination of others. Both the fire and air groups benefit from close friendships from which they draw support and motivation. Those in the air group tend to be idealistic and visionary, while those in the water group are realistic and practical, and thus they do not see things from the same perspective many times.

(Editor's note: Thank you for the many questions turned in on the groups. The groups represent one aspect of the birth path as measured from the date of birth. A complete Name Report, which can be ordered on line, will give you a comprehensive understanding of your inner potential and how your names have influenced the expression of your natural purpose in life).

We would like to share with you a letter received from one of the newsletter subscribers :-)

"Enjoyed your newsletter this month. I agree with the notion of accomplishment, finishing tasks, and mental stimulation. I have returned back to school at the age of 42 to get my nursing degree, and the mental energy required, in addition to working full time and having a family, is staggering, yet at times there are moments of clarity and purpose so profound I feel it is divine inspiration. Of note is my struggle with drug calculations-- math being a foreign language, and the struggle of taking numbers into a cohesive formula with one solution-- when this was overcome, and problem after problem could be worked out effortlessly, there came with this accomplishment a sense of joy so profound that it brought tears to my eyes. I have found that learning nursing procedures involves more than just technical skills; it involves re-working your entire thinking process, so that all thinking is energy efficient, and there is not a lot of extra thought cluttering the mind, which can lead to depression and mental anquish, of which I have both suffered from over the years. When one is single-minded in purpose, concentrating on the task at hand, there comes with it a mental clarity that spills over into all areas of one's life. I work in a drug rehab and have found that the greatest obstacle for people struggling to overcome drug addiction is their lack of purpose in life; that they feel there is no meaning for them; and their life has turned inward; looking for external events to turn their lives around. It is the inner life that creates the inner glow. Thank you again."
