Thought for the Day

When viewing or thinking a thought, always clarify it for the value of its logic and reason; divest it of imagination, mystery, and all falseness; see the clear intent, whether constructive or otherwise, and never compromise with illogicality; a statement is, or is not. See it for what it really is, and do not attempt to clothe it with personality; this is what so often leads to jumping to conclusions and self-pity.

- Alfred J. Parker

Happiness Through Mental Control

We live in world of many so-called freedoms, yet mental tension, Disassociative Identity Disorders, and insanity are on the increase. One every hand, people are bombarded with the idea that we must learn to express our feelings entirely without restraint in order to overcome inhibitions and be completely natural and happy.

Everything is a state of mind in any event, and perhaps because humanity does not truly understand the origin and development of mind and how to find true naturalness, we are creating the opposite reaction. The greatest mental freedom comes when a mind is balanced to ones potential and disciplined and taught to strive for refinement of thought, for that is what creates who we are.

Refinement in Living

So often anyone striving to maintain a refined physical, mental, and moral standard is considered prudish, a prisoner in mind suffering from an out-dated, Victorian concept. According to psychologists, turmoil among people is considered a good idea; however, they do not seem to have an answer to combat the eventual contempt that arises when there is little control of the Power of the Word. Perhaps, because people live so much in a state of feeling, it is difficult to understand the true picture of life and the role we should play. We are inclined to define life according to how we feel: if something makes us feel better it is good, and we are so often just interested in satisfying self-motivated desires.

Yet, we see that life today is not progressing mentally and spiritually. Degeneration is fast replacing refinement and constructive progress. Young people are turning to deadly drugs in an endeavour to find peace of mind and happiness.

Pleasure Not Happiness

Others expect to find happiness in free sexual expression but soon discover that it is one of the biggest contributors to unhappiness and divorce. The intent behind practically everything is based on sex, from hair styles and clothing, which has made people so aware of being appealing and enticing to the opposite sex. Sex has a part to play in life, but should not take up so much of our thinking capacity.

People are discovering that resorting to anger and uncontrolled expression does not lead to understanding, but unhappiness and confusion.

We eat certain foods because we enjoy the taste, yet rarely do we stop to consider the influence of food of the state of our health. So few people know what constitutes thinking, and how to analyze life and come to logical conclusions.

People are intelligent as far as knowledge is concerned, but lack basic common sense regarding many aspects of life and thus suffering and sickness result.
Potentially, our purpose is to develop our intelligence by understanding and applying the laws governing life and the growth of human mind.

Evolution of Life

Life is the result of the involution of an intelligent power into form and its evolution through the various species, and ultimately through the conscious mind of mankind in the form of wisdom. The growth or evolution of life is readily discernible in the growth of a seed. The seed is the finite form. Contained within the seed is a power that cannot be seen, but which unfolds through time to express the beauty of a flower, its reason for being, or the intelligence contained within the seed.

All living things follow this basic Principle, including humankind. At birth our reason for being, or the intelligent power which gives us life, is completely subservient to the growth of our mental concept for expression in the form of wisdom. This is our eventual attainment. A youngster’s first awareness of life is through the state of feeling and unless given an ideal, a basic Principle to live by, proper guidance, discipline, and education to filfil his or her true purpose, youngsters remain living in the state of feeling or self in one form or another for the remainder of their lives. The mind never aspires to spirtitual fulfilment.

Emotion Transmuted

Emotion and feeling when transmuted becomes a refined, constructive awareness of life and adds the inspiration, beauty, and power to one’s quality of thinking. Many things constitute emotional expression, but it is the quality and value that determine whether it is just a selfish emotional outlet or controlled by the mind for a particular constructive purpose. Such emotional expression as temper, anger, jealousy, argumentativeness, self-pity, and egoism represent mind expressing the lowest quality of feeling, whereas the development of generosity, understanding, tolerance, and beauty of mind represent emotion lifted to a refined level where the emotional power behind our every thought is for the good of all. We must have feeling in order to be aware of life, but we must spend time developing our intellect and logic so that destructive desires and emotional expressions do not create the inhibitions and idiosyncrasies of human nature. To reach a state of control requires mental balance.

Happiness—A Mental Attainment

All people desire happiness, peace, harmony, and contentment, whether they realize it or not, but seldom has anyone found this elusive state of thinking because it can be attained only through mental balance, self-discipline of feeling, and constructive progressive thinking, removed from selfish interests and desires. Nobody can give us happiness; it must be a mental attainment and then our lives reflect the peace and beauty accordingly.

The Kabalarian Philosophy teaches a basic Principle of life and mind through which we can understand why we thinks and feels as we do, and how we can evolve and establish self-control and thus the fulfilment of our purpose. Our sanity depends upon the clarity and logic of our own minds.

“Purpose logic scintillates in human darkness, like the refraction of light from lovely jewels. It stands out amidst mental confusion.” (Quotation by Alfred J. Parker)
